Yoga Day Forty-Three: Extended Side Angle Pose

Extended Side Angle, or Utthita Parshvakonasa,  like triangle, is one of my favorite daily poses and is kind of underrated.  I did it in my first “gentle yoga” class on Saturday (cold in full force) and my knees didn’t mind it.  It feels more grounded and less powerful that warriors, and the twist is gentler and more full-bodied than a twisted lunge.  I don’t know why it doesn’t have a cute name or isn’t part of the warrior fam, but Iyengar separates it.  Perfect gentle, but challenging pose for daily practice.

Modified on knee – which is how I tend to do it, although my torso is further over my bent knee.

Modified with prop – really nice extension

REALLY wide stance – trying this for full pose.
